CNC Machinist II

Summary:
The CNC Machinist II maximizes efficiency in operating CNC lathe and mill machines to manufacture fittings, special products, and new or revised items. This role focuses on operational consistency, adherence to quality standards, and process improvement.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate CNC machines (lathes and mills) per blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Select materials, tool holders, and tooling; modify tooling to meet specifications.
  • Ensure accurate dimensions using measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, comparators, calipers, gauges). Verify parts conform to blueprints during and after production runs.
  • Troubleshoot machine operations, improve product quality, and conduct tool life studies.
  • Assist in continuous improvement efforts and optimize cycle times, layouts, tooling, inspection gauges, and materials.
  • Identify and report any machine malfunctions or unsafe conditions.
  • Log machine statuses through passdown logbooks and turnover meetings.
  • Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks, interpret data, and comply with shop floor systems.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations, including waste elimination. Actively promote the HSE culture through safe practices and initiatives.

Education and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (Technical Schooling preferred).
  • Minimum 3+ years of technical education or experience with CNC machinery.
  • Advanced knowledge of CNC operations, blueprint interpretation, and SPC data acquisition.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming software (G-Codes) and Microsoft Word.
  • Preferred: Advanced CNC Machining certification.

Skills:

  • Expertise in troubleshooting, tool maintenance, and optimizing machine operations.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to read technical diagrams, write basic reports, and present information effectively.
  • Solid organizational, planning, and adaptability skills.
  • Experience working under minimal supervision while managing competing priorities.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Frequent standing, walking, and manual dexterity required. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly.
  • Work environments may involve loud noise levels typical of manufacturing settings.

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all HSE policies and procedures while fostering a strong safety culture.
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or risks immediately to supervisors or HSE staff.
  • Participate in HSE-focused initiatives such as risk analyses and waste reduction efforts.
